SADDLE UP COWBOY, THERE'S A PIRATE EAST OF THE MOON.
image
space ¡ cowboy ¡ pirate ¡ colony
Combine cowboy movies, pirate movies, cowboy bebop anime, trigun anime. Shake, stir and add water.

the past
It's difficult to imagine that in 2020 the earth would be inhabitable. Just a decade prior we had set up a space colony and in the midst of dangerous clues about the fate of earth, scientists and engineers had to work hard to complete a project that was started decades before. The project was to create a large enough colony and space shuttle to carry a large amount of humans to space and ensure their survival. Once it was done (some of it was constructed in space), there were planes and planes of people heading out to space to make the colony their new home. There was one shuttle a day. Unfortunately only about 10% of people on Earth ever made it before the toxic air on Earth became overwhelming. We tried to go back and that's when we saw the devastation. A majority of the people were dead and those who were alive were dying and would never make the trip to Earth II. During my part in the project, I never imagined that I would see almost all of humanity gone. Everything seems pointless now. We died with the 90% of the population 25 years ago. We never had a chance at survival. ~ by scientist John Black

the present
When we went into space we thought it wouldn't be difficult to find planets with water. It didn't take long until we learned the truth that it would be the most difficult part of the project. We hardly had enough money and technology left to get things going fast but luckily there were other businesses who were beginning to create ships and train people to find and extract water. We were grateful... until we saw the bill. Things aren't easy for them either, they have to endure the pirates who continue to attack them and steal their tanks. I couldn't blame them though, if I had a ship and a crew, I'd steal the tanks too. The bastards are overpricing water and they're not even sharing it equally to the community. Piracy is growing but so is the business of Tankards and now we're stuck in a strange space pirate/western movie that boggles the minds of everyone. Is this what we have to look forward to in the new frontier. ~ anonymous ship builder

the future
CAPTAIN Jack was in his chambers with the Quartermaster, meanwhile the rest of the ship was in a frenzy. From the east the engineers were trying to mend the gaping hole in the Engine Room and from the west the gunners were being overworked. The damned Tankards were trying to get back the watertanks. The Pilot's just waiting orders but nothing is coming from the Chambers. We're bloody grounded on this stupid dryland and there's not even a peep from the leaders. No order, no request, not even a question about the status of the ship. Finally the door opened and an official stepped out and yelled to the entire crew, "Gunners! Shoot those Tankards to the Moon. We'll be damned if we surrender now. And even more damned if they leave untouched. ~ anonymous cpt. jack crewmember

Oooh ever since watching Firefly/Serenity, I've thought how awesome doing something like this would be. I'm interested and willing to help if you need it.

I have a general question for anyone who looks through the forums on the site. What do you think of the types of forums? On one side I think I described things well enough, and some generally enough that role playing would work out fine, and on another side, I feel like I should add a few specific areas. This isn't a question related to subtracting or editing, just adding.

Well, apart from the font screwing with my eyes, I think you've done a good job with the descriptions. They're described well enough for people to work with but are still left open to the imagination. With sites covering expansive areas it's hard to be specific. But, if it's bothering you, you could always have a few specific areas within the main planet/s - though from what I can see you've got it covered.

On another note, my mind is swimming with ideas for characters but I can't seem to put my finger on what I want >.< And, then again, with uni starting back up I might not even have time to join *sigh*

The forum area that bothers me is the New Earth forums. I like everything else because when it comes to planets and space adventure, I'd prefer to be liberal. Plus I wouldn't be sure of what specifics to add and it'd be more tedious and exhausting on my part instead of exciting. I suppose I can keep adding forums as I go if people ask for more. I just have to work on the pages.

Oh and I upped the size and weight just a bit, though I'm know how the fonts show on your computer.

Yeah, leaving it sounds like the best plan. You can add more later, s'what happened with my sites. And I like the detail you've gone into for those, helps set the scene.

And the font size is good now ^^ Thanks.

Oh, and are you putting up a basic description/background?'Cause my mind is currently trying to sum up the whole thing and failing XDD Might be that it's late.

Thank you, I was worried because I never described forums the way I did on this site. It's a different approach for me.

And you're welcome, it was no problem at all.

I'll be working on the index and about page soon. Today or Tomorrow. I think I have a good idea of what the back story would be so maybe I'll edit the ad in a few minutes to describe the present day events.

Sounds good. If you need any help with moderators and such, let me know. I'm running two other sites but I should find time to join this one. ^^

Edit: Also, I love the little comment/quote atop the image up there.

Oi, I'd love a moderator. Especially to read over things. I'll probably be finished ahead of the date I posted but I want to spend a couple days proofing the site for errors. If you or anyone else see anything out of place, just give me a hint.

As for the comment, it was the most random and in sync phrase I could come up with. And it was the best way to incorporate all the genres into a whacky comment xd I'm glad you love it

Consider me very teased!

Also, taking a look at the forums, they seem a bit overwhelming for a new site. Some of the descriptions are really long. Maybe shorten them and have a "guidelines" post stickied in each section so it doesn't make the list uber long and still has all the information available for members. The page anchors work beautifully though!

Also, maybe somewhere on the public areas you could explain the groups/organizations a bit more? That seems to be a plot point and I would def like to know about rivaries and characteristics.

I edited the longest forum, Pandora Box to leave the layout in a stickied thread. As time goes by, maybe I'll do more changes to the lengths but I prefer it the way it is now. I don't want to give myself reason to go too much into detail but I think there's enough in the forum descriptions to satisfy people.

I'll work on a simple character/relationship section in the group/organization page.
